Individual Counselling Maitland
A space to slow down, understand yourself, and create meaningful change.
Life can feel overwhelming at times. You may be navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, burnout, or simply feeling like you've lost touch with yourself.
Individual counselling offers a safe and compassionate space where you don't have to carry those experiences alone. Together, we'll explore your story with curiosity, develop a deeper understanding of yourself, and work towards meaningful, lasting change at a pace that feels right for you.
How I Work
I believe healing begins with understanding.
Our thoughts, emotions and behaviours don't develop in isolation. They are shaped by our relationships, life experiences and the ways we've learnt to adapt, protect ourselves and survive.
Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?", I often ask, "What has happened to you, and what parts of you have been working so hard to protect you?"
Together, we'll gently explore your experiences with curiosity rather than judgement, helping you better understand yourself, strengthen your emotional wellbeing, and develop new ways of responding to life's challenges.
My approach is attachment-focused, trauma-informed and neuroaffirming, recognising that healing happens when we feel safe, understood and accepted.
Issues We Commonly Support
At Soulful Support Counselling, we welcome individuals across different life stages – adolescents (10+), adults, and older adults. Some of the concerns we commonly support include:
Anxiety and stress – racing thoughts, overthinking, panic, and ongoing tension.
Trauma and adverse experiences – navigating the effects of past or recent trauma in a safe, grounded way.
Depression and low mood – loss of motivation, fatigue, and feelings of hopelessness.
Grief and loss – adjusting to the death of a loved one, separation, or life transitions.
Self-esteem and identity – struggles with confidence, self-worth, or sense of direction.
Relationship challenges – conflict, communication struggles, or difficulties maintaining boundaries.
Life transitions – starting a new job, parenthood, relocation, or other significant changes.
Stress management and burnout – especially for those juggling multiple responsibilities.
No matter the issue, you don’t have to go through it alone. Counselling provides the space and tools to help you move forward with greater ease and clarity.
My Counselling Approach
Healing begins with understanding.
My work is grounded in attachment-focused, trauma-informed and neuroaffirming practice, recognising that our thoughts, emotions and behaviours are shaped by our life experiences, relationships and the ways we've learnt to adapt and protect ourselves.
Rather than following a single therapy model, I thoughtfully integrate a range of evidence-informed approaches to meet your individual needs and goals.
Understanding yourself with compassion
Together, we'll gently explore the experiences, emotions and patterns that may be influencing your wellbeing today. My aim isn't to tell you what's wrong with you, but to help you better understand yourself with curiosity, compassion and greater self-awareness.
Working with protective parts
At times, different parts of us can hold anxiety, self-criticism, anger, fear or the drive to always keep others happy. Through parts-based approaches, including Resource Therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS), we can begin to understand these protective parts, recognising that they developed for good reasons and deserve compassion rather than judgement.
Strengthening emotional wellbeing
Together we'll develop practical tools to help you navigate life's challenges, manage difficult emotions, build resilience and create meaningful, lasting change. Depending on your needs, this may include approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), mindfulness and meditation practices.
Healing through connection
I also draw on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Schema Therapy to help explore the deeper emotional experiences, relationship patterns and beliefs that shape the way we see ourselves and connect with others.
Above all, my priority is creating a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you feel safe to explore your story, understand yourself more deeply, and move towards the life you want to live.
What to Expect in Counselling
If it’s your first time seeing a counsellor, you may feel uncertain about what to expect. Here’s a simple overview of the process:
Initial Session – Together we’ll talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you’d like to gain from it. This is a chance for us to get to know each other and establish a foundation of trust.
Ongoing Sessions – Sessions typically run for 60 minutes and are held weekly or fortnightly, depending on your needs. During these sessions, we explore your challenges, build coping tools, and reflect on your progress.
Confidential and Supportive Environment – Everything you share is treated with respect and confidentiality, creating a safe space for honest reflection.
Collaborative Process – Counselling is tailored to your goals. You are in control of the pace and direction of your journey.
Counselling is not always easy, sometimes it means facing difficult feelings, but it can also be deeply rewarding and transformative. Many clients report feeling lighter, clearer, and more connected to themselves after beginning the process.
